Q: How does your technology work?

A: Our technology designed to be easy to use and to set up.  To read an overview of how it works please click here.

Q: Can I use one of your gateways on my own private network without connecting to the Internet?

A: No.  Not with our off-the-shelf technology.  We focus on making it easy and cost-effective to internet-enable devices with an emphasis on Internet.  In the future we may offer local appliance versions of our server technology and high volume customers are welcome to license our server technology to run on either internal networks or the internet.

Q: Do I have to pay a subscription to use the ioBridge dashboard or to log data?

A: No.  We offer a subscription free service with purchase of our off-the-shelf web gateways.  Add on subscriptions are available for users that wish to have more than 4 data logs per account or who wish to log data at a rate faster than every 10 minutes.  We have found that our standard services meets the needs of the vast majority of customers without paying a subscription.

Q: Where is my logged data stored and can I download it?

A: Your data is stored in secure databases on our cloud servers.  With the correct credentials your data can be downloaded in CSV format or can be accessed via the ioBridge API.

Q: How long is my data stored? 

A. Part of your free service provides a historical log of 30 days.  ioBridge is currently making all historical data available as an additional free service but reserves the right sometime in the future to limit availability of data logs to 30 days.

Q: What kind of network do I need?

A: You’ll need a 10/100Base-T network configured for auto-detection. A DHCP service running on the network is also required for the IO-204 to obtain an IP address automatically. Most home networking routers take care of DHCP by default.

Q: How do I get around MAC filtering?

A: The easiest solution is to add the IO-204 web gateway’s MAC address to the “allowed” table in your router. If you don’t have access to the router settings then, you will need to first attach your web gateway to a network connection that isn’t MAC filtered. After linking your web gateway to your ioBridge account, you’ll be able to change the MAC address to whatever you want and then return it to the original, MAC filtered network.

Q: Do I have to open any ports on my firewall?

A: No, you shouldn’t need to open up any ports on your firewall. If you can access the web from inside your network, then the IO-204 web gateway will work without any modifications.

Q: Can I control a motor from an I/O channel?

A: Not directly. The digital output on an I/O channel is only capable of 5v, 20mA. To control the high current demanded by motors, you will need either our relay adapter board or a third party motor controller board. Motor controller boards a fairly common and a simple web search will yield plenty of hits.

Q: What are the specs of the analog input?

A: Each I/O channel has a 10-bit analog to digital converter with a range of 0 to 5 volts. Anything over 5 volts may permanently damage the IO-204 web gateway.

Q: Ok, I plugged it in and the light turned green. Now what?

A6: Sign up for an account at ioBridge.com or ioBridgepro.com and follow the steps to link your web gateway to your account. Once a link is established, you’ll be able to control and monitor your web gateway as well as set up widgets for placing on your own webpage.

Q: How about security?

A: Although nothing online can be 100% secure, we have gone to great lengths to ensure that you are the only one who can access your web gateway (useless you chose to share control of course). Data transfer with the web gateway is encrypted using an algorithm similar to SSL, which is the standard method for secure web transactions.

Q: Is there a wireless version?

A: Yes. Wireless devices include the IO-201 Wi-Fi and the Gamma Pro Wi-Fi.

Q: Can you help me design my project?

A: Yes but this service is not free. We recommend you first review the ioBridge Tutorials and read the documentation. You can also try posting on our forum for free advice. If you still need our design services please contact sales@iobridge.com.

Q: I am a product manufacturer, how does your technology work and what can you do for me?

A: ioBridge’s core business is licensing our technology to product manufacturers. We recommend our Iota and RealTime.io technology although in some cases our open source ThingSpeak platform might also be an option. We also provide custom hardware and software development services and can work with you from product idea to market. To get a sense of what our technology can do we recommend buying our IO-204 Web Gateway Evaluation kit and if you have the engineering know-how purchasing our Iota Evaluation Kit too. Although you will not use the IO-204 kit in a final product it will give you a good idea of what can be done with our technology and can be used to rapidly internet-enable almost anything without any software development.
